• Lancelot and Logan

    My Furbabies – Lancelot

Like just about 90% of the country, we got a pet during the corona pandemic as well. After almost 10 years of not having a cat and some major litter box PTSD, I finally decided that I was ready for another feline to enter our household. I searched through the rescues looking for the right rescue and the right kitten. I wanted an older kitten that already had developed the personality that I could choose. I was looking for an outgoing, playful cat who like to lay down next to you, but not necessarily on you. So after a few weeks, I found our Lancelot. Just like most of our…

  • Logan

    My Furbabies – Logan

After having only one cat for a while and having 3 children, I finally worked myself up to adopting another dog. It just had to be the prefect one that needed a home, so it took a while for such a canine creature to fall into my lap. Logan, then Bella, was dropped off at my clinic by a gentleman who had purchased her from out of state. Bella’s owner’s spouse did not appreciate a new dog in her household, so he decided to give her up. Since we had many owners and lovers of the pitbull dog breed among our staff at that time, they promised to find her…

  • Loki the Bengal cat

    My Furbabies – Loki

Loki is the only pet that I bought from a breeder. I will very likely never do this again, but who knows! He was a Bengal cat and he was absolutely gorgeous. He was my husband’s cat. My hubby spent some time researching cat breeds and decided that a Bengal was just the cat for him. This cat was a riot! We got him when he was about 10 weeks old and he was everything that my hubby wanted, curious, playful, protective, dog-like, and loving. Loki brought ringworm into my house. This silly vet ignored the breeder’s Persians that were isolated “because of some skin things” in the same home.…

  • My GSD Peanut

    My Furbabies – Peanut

Peanut was another German Shepherd Dog. My husband and I adopted him at the beginning of my 4th year in veterinary school. I found him at a breeder in east Texas while I was on my externship. The breeder was giving him away for free because he supposedly had congenital megaesophagus. (Which he did. We just didn’t find out about it until much later.) He also only weighed 12 pounds at 12 weeks when his littermates were between 25 to 35 pounds. Definitely got ourselves the runt of the litter! Peanut had a lot of joint problems throughout his life. When he was about 5 months old, Lupa tripped over…

  • Lupa, my GSD

    My Furbabies – Lupa

My second pet that I adopted on my own was a German Shepherd Dog (GSD) named Lupa. I got her in October of 1995 after she had had her first litter of puppies. I worked as a receptionist/technician for a veterinary clinic in Richardson, TX, and one of my coworkers was a GSD breeder. Lupa spent some time at the clinic and I saw that she was the perfect dog. When the “breeder” tech decided to switch to Rottweilers for her breed, I got a chance to adopt my girl. I couldn’t say yes faster and she went home with me right after she had weaned her pups. Lupa had…
